Week 3 - Choosing the Right Path Part 1

Having begun my health journey, I quickly realized I was also beginning a faith journey as well. It became clear that I would be faced with making decisions related to treatment of my disease, and I wanted those decisions to be grounded in the counsel the Holy Spirit would provide (Psalm 73:24) that would keep me on the right path for my battle with this sarcoma. I went to to the Bible to remember those verses that would give me confidence that God had a plan for me and would keep me on the right path as I continued this journey. Several verses immediately became the foundation of assurance that God did have a plan for getting me through this trial;

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29”11 (NIV)

Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)

We should make plans—counting on God to direct us. Proverbs 16:9 (TLB)

I will go before you
and will level the mountains. Isaiah 45:2 (NIV)

The Lord will work out his plans for my life. Psalm 138:8 (LB) [the original NIV version reads: The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me]

Here is how I’ve learned to use these verses/promises when facing big decisions in my life:

I know God has a plan/purpose for my life. His plan is to prosper and keep me on the best path for my life. When I ask Him to fulfill his plan for me, He promises He will do that. He knows far better than I can know whether my inclination to choose a particular course is what is best for me. I trust Him to fulfill His perfect will for my good, more than I trust my own ability to have perfect knowledge to know what is best. When I ask Him to be in control, He promises to go before me and level the obstacles that would prevent His plan from being fulfilled. I can be at peace and free from anxiety because I trust God to work out His good and perfect will for me. Having this confidence in God leading me on the right path was essential as I began the fight for my life.
